đŹÂ âHow Do I Hear His Voice?â
Letâs begin with this truth:
đ 1. Jesus still speaks today.
âMy sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.â
âJohn 10:27, NKJV
Jesus didnât stop speaking when the Bible was finished.
He speaks todayâthrough His Word, by His Spirit, and into the hearts of those who belong to Him.
But hearing Him isnât always about volume or even clarityâitâs about relationship.
Sheep donât follow a voice they donât recognize⌠but over time, they come to know it by heart.
đżÂ 2. The primary way Jesus speaks is through Scripture.
His voice is never separated from His Word.
If you want to hear Him clearly, go first to what He has already said.
- The Holy Spirit brings Scripture to life, speaking it into our current moment.
- Sometimes it comes as comfort, sometimes as conviction.
- Often, itâs just a quiet knowing:Â âThat verse is for me today.â
âThe words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.â
âJohn 6:63
đŹď¸Â 3. He speaks gently by His Spirit.
When weâre walking with Jesus, His Spirit abides in usâand speaks to us.
- Through a quiet impression
- A sense of warning
- A feeling of peace in the middle of confusion
- A moment of clarity we didnât create on our own
The voice of the Spirit is never chaotic, never condemning, and always aligns with Scripture.
âYour ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, âThis is the way, walk in it.ââ
âIsaiah 30:21
đ 4. Sometimes, we struggle to hear because of noise.
Things that can muffle His voice:
- Distraction
- Constant noise or busyness
- Sin or hardened areas of the heart
- Unbelief or fear
- Trying to make God say what we want to hear
Hearing Jesus well begins with quietness and surrender.
đ 5. His voice grows clearer through familiarity.
Just like a child recognizes their motherâs voice over all othersâŚ
You learn to recognize Jesusâ voice by spending time with Him.
- Reading His Word with your heart open
- Talking with Him throughout the day
- Paying attention to what aligns with His character and peace
You begin to sense: âThat sounds like Jesus.â
Or sometimes: âThat doesnât feel like Him at all.â
âBut solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.â
âHebrews 5:14
We learn by use. By practice. By closeness.
đ¨Â 6. He may speak through unexpected thingsâbut He never contradicts Himself.
God has used:
- A burning bush đż
- A donkey đ´
- A whisper in the wind đŹď¸
- A dream in the night đ
- A childâs voice đ§
- A verse we didnât expect to read đ
So He may use a song, a walk in the garden, a memory, or a special photo.
But whatever He uses, it will never go against His written Word.
Thatâs how you can trust itâs really Him.
âłÂ 7. He doesnât rushâHe invites.
Jesus doesnât shout, demand, or manipulate.
His voice is always gentle, true, and deeply respectful of your soul.

- He waits for you to listen.
- He repeats Himself when youâre too tired to catch it.
- He walks with you until youâre ready to hear it.
âBehold, I stand at the door and knockâŚâ
âRevelation 3:20
I have always loved this verse because as a child a sweet neighbor lady had a beautiful picture of Jesus at a door with no knob, softly knocking. I was intrigued by it from early childhood that we had to let him in instead of him opening the door.
Heâs not pounding. Heâs knocking. He wants welcome, not submission under pressure.
Thatâs the full picture of what I believe we should offer in this second post:
- Yes, He speaks.
- Yes, you can hear Him.
- And yes, it gets clearer the more you abide.
